The Manufacturing Quality Inspector is responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and testing materials, parts, and finished products to ensure they meet strict company quality standards and safety regulations. This role involves conducting visual inspections, using precise measuring equipment, and documenting data throughout the production process to prevent defects and ensure customer satisfaction.
In-Process & Final Inspection: Conduct physical and visual inspections of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished products against blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
Measurement & Testing: Utilize precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, or CMM machines) to verify product dimensions and tolerances.
Defect Documentation: Identify, segregate, and document non-conforming or defective materials. Raise non-conformance reports (NCRs) and tag parts to ensure they are not used in production.
Process Audits: Audit assembly lines and manufacturing processes to ensure operators are following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality plans.
Data Entry & Reporting: Accurately log inspection results, test data, and pass/fail rates into the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) or ERP software.
Root Cause Support: Assist quality engineers and production teams in investigating defects and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Equipment Calibration: Verify that inspection tools and gauges are properly calibrated and maintained before use.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. A technical degree or certification (such as ASQ Certified Quality Inspector) is a major plus.
Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing quality control or assembly environment.
Technical Skills:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols.
Proficiency with standard handheld precision measuring tools.
Basic computer skills for data entry (Excel, ERP, or QMS software).
Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, objective judgment, and clear communication skills to explain defects to production teams.
Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 35–50 lbs periodically, and maintain excellent visual acuity (with or without corrective lenses) for defect detection.
